Article - Online Poker Gambling in California

Since the apparition of casino gambling, California State was far in front of others in casino gambling expansion. That is why many of us thought this state will manage to make some changes in the legalization on the field of online poker gambling. Unfortunately, after the latest news, we have to wait at least another year to find out some results.

The framework bill proposing licensing for taxed and legal intrastate online poker was passed to the California state’s lower house in 2008 by Jim Tabillo, president of grassroots gaming advocacy group Poker Voters of America (PVA). The bill had support in the Assembly and the Senate also and legislators in both houses were willing to take it forward. Last year Lloyd Levine, California Assemblyman introduced the bill, but not much after he dropped it down because of the economic downturn.

The spokesman of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians stated that there should be taken more time to straighten the proposal before pursuing legalized internet poker in California. As spokesman Patrick Dorinson stated, the best option would be to regroup and decisions to be made in January 2010. Unlike the Morongo Band of Mission Indians other tribes are blocking the idea of joining and fighting with Californian card rooms. The subject of the tribes’ fears is the potential result of the partnership, that being the placement in jeopardy the tribal casinos’ exclusive rights to gambling.

One thing is for sure, the initiative of legalizing online poker is getting more and more support in the line of legislators. Although the bill was dropped until January 2010 there can be some benefits, one of them is strengthening the bill by getting more useful information, which can be pertinent to any kind of online gambling bill passing.
